Game design is both challenging and rewarding. Great games start with a great idea, but it takes hard work to make them real. We prepared seven  recommendations that can make your next game a big hit.

Understand Your Audience

Before you draft a single line of the code, it’s crucial to know who this game will be  for. Conduct market research, study current trends, and, most importantly, talk with people from your potential player base. Social media, forums, and gaming communities can offer invaluable insights into what your audience desires.  Developers creating games for betting sites not registered with GamStop say that understanding your audience is crucial for making engaging games.

Meaningful Narratives

A good story can greatly improve a game. Your game’s story doesn’t need to be very complex; even simple games can have engaging backstories. The important thing is to blend the story smoothly with the game so it feels natural.

Characters that are too weak or too strong are undesirable in the game. If a character is too strong he will affect the game much more than a weak one. In reality, no one will play with weak characters. If, on the contrary, characters are too strong, then players will choose only them. But this, in turn, will make the game more boring due to monotony. So, your characters should be neither strong nor weak.

Variety vs. Imbalance

You surely know  the game Counter-Strike. Let’s imagine you entered a one-on-one fight and chose knives as your weapon. There is an ideal balance, meaning the result of the battle will depend only on the player’s skills. But after a few rounds, you will be the first to get bored with this “perfect balance”; you will want variety. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce additional items  and conditions for their use. For example, if there is an automatic weapon with maximum damage, it is advisable to introduce restrictions on the rate of fire and reload time. If this is not done, the imbalance will become very noticeable, and the advantage of the weapon will be too obvious, which is not good.

Fortune is a Lottery

Relying on pure luck in games is not inherently negative, but it can be unpopular among many players. Games often feature critical hits that cause excessive damage, allowing beginners to defeat more experienced opponents. However, such randomness can frustrate experienced players. It’s important to balance the element of chance in gameplay to keep it reasonable. Completely removing these mechanics is not always the best solution. For instance, critical hits could be programmed to occur after every third consecutive hit. This adds a strategic element: if a player isn’t quick or strategic enough, they risk taking damage that resets their critical hit counter. This system promotes balanced gameplay because it  rewards skill and strategy rather than pure chance.

 Automatic Deterioration of Balance

Imagine you’ve meticulously designed your game to be perfectly balanced. Initially, everything seems great, but as time passes, the dynamic may shift. Players might discover new strategies or exploit hidden features, and feel  that gameplay becomes repetitive and less engaging. Recall the iconic Rocket Jump in Quake, a technique that even surprised the developers, including John Romero.

To address such imbalances, it’s crucial to update the game regularly. Once players have had a chance to explore the game, introducing patches to adjust certain elements can help maintain balance. This encourages players to find new strategies and keeps the gameplay fresh and engaging.

Welcome Feedback

Use feedback and keep improving your game. Getting thoughts from playtests, reviews, and the community helps you see things you might have missed and shows you what to make better. Welcome this feedback, even if it means changing parts of your game.. Also, pay attention to feedback after your game is out to make it better. This process of updating and improving based on feedback makes your game better and builds a loyal player community.

Perfection Isn’t Necessary

Game designers should address imbalances, yet they aren’t expected to perfect every aspect. The goal is to craft gameplay thoughtfully and diversely. In reality, achieving an ideal balance of all skills and weapons is unattainable. What’s crucial are the game’s timing, spatial design, economic balance, player comfort, and engaging gameplay—these elements define the game’s quality.

Making games involves lots of people with different skills. They work with each other to create something special. If you want to get into gaming or just understand more about how games are made, read this article. It explains the different jobs in game development.

Game Programmers

Game programmers are the tech wizards behind video games. Their work transforms creative concepts into engaging games. They write the code that brings to life the game’s mechanics. This can include everything from characters’ moves to how the game responds to player actions. Game programmers work with various programming languages and tools, and they often specialize in gameplay, graphics, artificial intelligence, and user interface development.

Artists

Artists are the creative minds responsible for crafting the visual elements of a game. They create characters, the world they’re in, how things move, and how the game’s controls look on the screen. They make games look good and set  the game’s mood and type. Artists work closely with the game’s designers and coders to make sure the game world is visually striking and makes sense.

Sound Designers

Sound designers create sounds for actions, places, and interactions in the game. This includes everything from a character’s footsteps on various surfaces to the sounds of guns.

Sound designers are often responsible for recording and editing dialogue and voice-overs. They work with voice actors to bring characters to life. Some sound designers also compose music and  adapt the musical score within the game. They ensure that all sounds in a game mix well and no single sound is too loud.  Of course, they need to know how to use sound software like Pro Tools, Ableton Live, or Logic Pro, and how to add sounds to games.

 Writers

They prepare the game’s story, dialogue, and characters. Their work is especially important in RPGs, adventure games, and any other genre where storytelling is a key component.Writers need a strong imagination to make up new game worlds and characters. They should think creatively to blend the story into the game in interesting ways.

Level Designers

These guys create terrain to where enemies and key items go and  plan the routes players can take. They are responsible for making the game challenging but not too hard.  Each level must look right and match the game’s overall style. Level designers have  to know how to use design software and game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity. And they need creativity to come up with interesting  level designs that work well.

 Producers

They plan out the game’s development, set important goals, and make sure the team meets them. Producers help all team members stay focused on the same goals. When issues pop up, producers figure out solutions. Certifications in project management can be a plus. But you don’t need a specific degree to become a producer. Though of course producers  have  to understand game design, project management, and game production. Often they start in roles like game testers or designers. And no doubt, producers also need to be good leaders.

 Quality Assurance (QA) Testers

QA testers play a crucial role in game development by finding and reporting any bugs or glitches. They carefully test the game to make it as smooth and free from errors as possible before it’s released. Besides just looking for bugs, QA testers also give feedback on how the game plays, how hard it is, and how it feels to play, helping to improve the overall gaming experience.

Indie Developers

Indie developers do many jobs in game development. They  design, code, create art and marketing. They work with less money and smaller teams but are very creative and good at making unique games.

Conclusion

The creation of a video game is a multifaceted process that relies on the collaboration of various types of game developers, each with their specialized skills and perspectives. From the initial concept to the final product, every role is vital in shaping the games that captivate and entertain players around the globe. As the gaming industry continues to grow and evolve, so too will the roles and specializations within game development, promising even richer and more diverse gaming experiences in the years to come.

The post 5 Changes You Need to Make to Rank Up in CSGO in 2023 appeared first on ViewsGameK.

]]>
The level of competition in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) is always high. Players compete against each other to reach the top ranks and prove their skills.

The CS: GO ranking system plays a central role in the game. This motivates players to develop their abilities while reaching a higher rank. However, ranking up in CSGO is not a mean feat, as it requires dire dedication, skill, and strategy.

Today, we gather the top five changes that must be ranked by the CSGO in 2023. These tips go a long way to improve your gameplay while increasing your chances of winning and climbing ranks. Therefore, whether you are a new player or a seasoned veteran, learn how to take your game to the next level.

Stop Scrolling

Recall the fast-paced nature of CSGO and how each second counts. Scrolling while playing to find one’s preferred weapon may be an insignificant action during gameplay. However, this can waste valuable time, which could cost the match. Therefore, optimizing gameplay while eliminating unnecessary time wasters is highly recommended.

The most recommended trick that veteran players use is binding keys for different weapons. Through this technique, one can easily switch between weapons with the click of a button combination.

Therefore, one can respond to threats more effectively and quickly. This comes in handy, especially during high-intensity moments, where each second is counted. In addition, it improves your overall gameplay and provides you with a tactical advantage over your opponents.

Adjusting binding keys may be difficult. However, it is easy to become acquainted after a week. Do not let scrolling during your gameplay cost you a match.

Team Up

Climbing the ladder to the top of the food chain in CSGO requires teamwork. However, working as a part of a team is difficult. You need a foolproof plan to make it work. There are several questions that you need to answer before being part of a team:

  •  Who would act as a captain?
  • Who are the other team members?
  • How willing are you to invest in your team?
  • What are the rules for participation in teams?

Afterward, you can start playing with your friends or future teammates to discover what they are. What are they good at, or what are they lacking? Ensure that each team member is on the same page.

Additionally, it is necessary to develop a strategy that works well with the team. This can include assigning roles to players, creating a plan for each run, and creating specific tactics for different maps.

Consequently, practicing with your team regularly helps improve your skills while developing a stronger understanding of each team member’s playstyle. This could include specific strategies or running practices to improve coordination and communication.

Utilize Scroll Wheel

A scroll wheel in CSGO is a game-changer when looking to rank up. Starting by binding the scroll wheel to the jump function. This helps in making movements swifter and more efficient. Thus, it gives an edge when making movements against their opponents.

One of the benefits of using a scroll wheel to jump is that it allows quick and precise jumps to be performed.

For example, if one needs to jump over an obstacle to avoid enemy fire or gain a tactical advantage, use the scroll wheel to maneuver easily.

Furthermore, the scroll wheel and space bar can be easily combined for better and more advanced movement. For example, bunny hops are the easiest movements to perform with a scroll wheel. It provides a series of consecutive jumps that allow you to move faster and more smoothly across the map.

Flashbang Assist

A flashbang is a grenade that explodes with light and loud noise. Moreover, it temporarily blinds and immediately deafens the enemy. It disorients the enemy, thus allowing them to eliminate them before reacting quickly.

The best way to utilize flashbang is by throwing the grenade at an enemy unaware of its presence. Therefore, they need help to see where it comes from and what direction it travels toward them.

There are a few strategies to keep in mind when utilizing flashbang. First, remember that positioning is key. It is wise to throw the flashbang without being seen by the enemies. Therefore, ensure that you stand out in the open or behind a wall.

In addition, the timing is everything. Attacking an enemy without awareness might cause them to panic and start shooting randomly. Hence, this gives your team an advantage because few enemies shoot at them.

Check Map Callouts

The last critical aspect of improving your ranking is checking the map callouts. Map callouts refer to the specific locations on a map that are labeled and can be used to communicate with your fellow teammates.

You can easily and effectively communicate with teammates and coordinate attacks or defenses through callouts.

Moreover, it is important to have a permanent minimap check that includes checking it regularly throughout the game. This helps you to stay aware of your surroundings. In addition, it helps anticipate enemy movements and prevents surprises.

One effective strategy is to check the minimap after every 10-15 seconds. This helps you to stay updated with what is happening in the game.

Furthermore, it is recommended that one map be taken and learned by the heart. This means playing on the map frequently and becoming familiar with the layout and callout. Focusing on one map provides a deeper understanding of the terrain and the different locations on the map.

Have Fun

Stay caught up in the craze of rising among the ranks on CSGO, and remember why you started playing in the first place. It’s all about fun. However, some techniques can be employed to improve the rank of CSGO. Optimize your settings, adapt your playstyle, improve your communication, and stay updated using the latest techniques. Follow these tips, change your overall gameplay, and climb your ranks in CSGO.

Welcome to CSGO Knives 101! Getting tired of using the same old knife in CS: GO? Are you looking to upgrade your knife and add style to your gameplay? We’ve you covered. It is no surprise to CS: GO players know that knives are the most expensive items you can get in the shooter.

Obtaining weapon skins for any gun in CS: GO is simple by only opening cases and in-game drops. However, this case is different from getting a knife during the game.

A decent knife can make any arsenal shine because of its simple yet effective nature in combat. However, they come with a costly price tag that leaves many CS: GO players wondering how to get a knife in their possession.

It is important to know that there are many ways to get knife skin in CS: GO. Therefore, it’s your choice to find your preferred method. From trading to buying, we cover all the ways to get a new knife and how to get the most value for your money.

Buying From Steam Market

One of the simplest ways to purchase a new knife in CS: GO is to buy it directly from the steam market. The steam market is an open digital marketplace where players can buy, sell, or trade items.

Moreover, it is the fastest way to get a knife, as it takes only a few seconds to get the knife desired.

To buy a knife from the steam market, start by opening a steam account and having funds in the steam wallet. Afterward, search for the knife you want and select a listing that fits your budget.

However, checking the knife’s condition before purchasing it is recommended. The knife comes with different wear levels from Factory New to Factory Battle-Scarred. Obtaining a knife with a better wear level typically costs more than a lower one.

In addition, it is important to consider the knife’s rarity and popularity when purchasing it from the steam market. For example, rare and popular knives like Butterfly Knife or Karambit often have a higher price tag than ordinary knives.

Another important aspect of buying a knife from the steam market is the occasional unscrupulous dealers. Therefore, we recommend double-checking the listing and seller’s reputation before purchasing to avoid scams.

Buying From Third Party Marketplaces

Another viable option for acquiring a new knife in CS: GO is through a third-party market. These marketplaces generally feature low sales fees compared to the steam market community. Moreover, one can expect to run crazy discounts for different items.

The lower sale fees are attributed to sellers in third-party marketplaces setting their own prices. Therefore, a high level of competition drives the seller to lower prices.

However, caution should be exercised when dealing with third-party markets. Unlike steam markets, these marketplaces do not fall under the purview of regulatory bodies or authorities.

Therefore, one should first study the marketplace and the seller’s reputation before purchasing. In addition, you need to consider the preferred payment method in the marketplace.

You will find that some marketplaces allow direct payment using a credit or debit card, while others use cryptocurrency. Therefore, it is important to understand the different payment options and fees associated with each marketplace before making the final purchase.

Trade Up

The third popular option available for CS: GO players is trading. Trading up involves trading multiple low-value items for a high-value item, such as a knife. This is the cheapest means to acquire a knife.

To trade up a knife, you will need to begin with a low-value item and gradually trade it until you get a high-value item, in this case, a knife. This process requires patience and knowledge of the CS: GO trading market to make an effective trade.

A recommended strategy for trading up is to start with cases or skins that fetch a low value but remain high in demand. It is easier to trade these items as they help gradually build up losing value in your arsenal.

Beware of potential scams and dupes during trading. Always conduct thorough research on the items and traders you are dealing with. Moreover, we recommend working on reputable trading platforms.

Open Cases

Opening cases are the primary method for obtaining a knife in CS: GO. However, obtaining a knife is risky. Moreover, it can be rewarding, especially after managing a knife with a rare pattern.

Someone can sell an empty case or scam money by selling them as if they were full. Therefore, ensure that you purchase from someone reputable before making any purchase.

There are a few points to consider before opening any case. First, the CS: GO community is full of helpful resources where new players can learn more about the game and its economy.

Additionally, trading with reputable trading platforms like the ones you can read about at http://casinoudenrofus.info/ is important when buying or selling items from the steam community market. These sites have enhanced security compared to dealing with other players through discord channels or forums.

In-Game Drops

Even though this might not seem plausible, you can purchase knives through in-game drops without spending a dime.

By playing CS: GO, one can obtain two drops weekly. The first case takes a few games’ top drops; however, getting the next drop might take some hours of playing.

These game drops earn up to 50 cents, although the number varies depending on the active drop pool. Moreover, the more matches played and levels gained, the higher the chance of receiving an in-game drop. However, these rare knife drops require time before a player receives them.

Final Takeaway

In conclusion, obtaining a knife using CS: GO is challenging and time-consuming. However, following these tips and strategies greatly increases the chances of getting a knife. However, feel free to spend or invest money and time in finding one.

Becoming a CSGO is incredibly hard because you’ll be competing against the industry’s best. To stand a chance, players must factor in some qualities besides innate talent. Qualities like your skill, gun type, luck, and teammate quality will affect the results.

After all, Counter Strike is a PVP first-person shooter, so having skilled teammates may be why you’ll win. With that said, do you have what it takes to compete at Pro level in CSGO? If yes, then explore this article to discover the requirements.

Requirements for Going Pro in CSGO

Improve Your Aim

While this is a no-brainer, it’s funny the number of people who can’t shoot for their lives. It’s true! Even with the epicness that is the keyboard-mouse combo, some people are just not that fast nor responsive. Luckily for players, you can train your muscle memory by sitting up and taking the game seriously. After all, top-level players earn up to $2 Million annually. So, being able to aim accurately and the speed of your aim matters.

Aim for the Moon

Aim for the head because it deals the most damage. This is called cross-hair placement. Naturally, the better you can aim at certain parts of the body (maybe the chest), the quicker higher your chances of winning.

Snap Up Quick

When you’re quick, even players running 120Hz screens won’t see you coming because of their over-reliance. Though, that won’t work against Pro-level players running the latest hardware and software updates. Against Pro-level players, speedy aims help you take their avatars down.

Tour the Maps – Learn the Ins and Outs

By learning the maps, you get to practice your aim and learn about the different blinds spots that can help you secre the wins. Though, knowing when to leverage those blind spots are the trickiest parts because your opponents may try the same approach. But if you wait too long, you lose the element of surprise. But it goes both ways – any blind spot your enemy exploits teaches you how to watch your six and pull off a counter.

Hone Your Line Ups

From smoke grenades to molotovs, your line ups are gamechangers. However, they’re equally dangerous to you and your opponents. If you jump into a skirmish holding a throwable, the “Boys” will light up your Avatar like a Christmas tree. However, find tiny spaces to throw an item and the effect is always explosive.

Learn How to Communicate

It’s easy enough to communicate when your teammates aren’t being toxic. So, knowing when to keep your comms open and listening is imperative. Need some help before attacking an enemy team in a corner? Buzz your teammates. Want to warn them about a boogie exploiting a blind spot? Mic’s up! Just don’t clog up the comms with baseless chatter.

Join a CSGO Team

Now that you’re claiming heads left and right, you need to join a team. But first, you have to market yourself by putting your work out there for fans of the title to review. Once you build a community and get noticed, start reaching out to teams, or to be more specific, their coaches. Talk to them about your desire to join the team and prove your mettle.

Watch Your Gameplay

By learning where, when, and how your mistakes occurred, you’ll be more aware. You shouldn’t take it so personal, instead look at your Avatar from a bird’s eye view. That way, you gain true enlightenment on CSGO strategies.

What Makes a Pro Level Player In CSGO

To get to Pro-level status in CSGO, you must be raking in funds from your gaming activities. It doesn’t have to be millions for you to qualify for the status. Still, such a career plateau is exemplary.

Our Final Say

When there’s a will, there’s a way! Don’t let anybody tell what you can or not do. In fact, you’ve been defying odds ever since you were born. This is no different. Learn the ropes to CSGO and there’s no telling how far you can take it. If that’s not enough motivation, remember that Pro CSGO players retire early.

CSGO is tricky to bet on because the first-person shooter is being played by expert experts. Only the best players are chosen for CSGO tournaments because the ability to aim well is hard to master. Not only that, players can also have issues with leveraging the map. There’s also the issue of individual skill and teammate cohesiveness to worry about.

So, with that many facets to the game, how can you make nice bets? Moreover, CSGO isn’t a game of luck so players have to compete against skilled opponents. Learn about the 5 factors you need to know before placing CSGO

5 Things to Consider Before Wagering on CSGO

Watch Live Matches for Hidden Details

To get ahead of the curve, you may need to watch CSGO matches as they unfold. Not only will you be able to make live bets, you can find openings for your next bets. To pull off live bets, you need to bet at the right time and with the right amount. That requires you to be glued to the match as it unfolds. It also lets you monitor your bets and make any changes, if need be.

Know About the Upcoming Matches, and Bet On It

By deciding to bet on CSGO matches, you must be committed to learning the facts about the upcoming watches. Who’s the fan favourite? Is there an underdog? Who was the previous winner of the tournament? Who are the players involved and their statistics? Know these

Once you know these facts and data, you’ll be able to make wise betting decisions. The best betting sites CSGO always offer some form of data that punters can analyze.

Learn the Tournament Structure

Usually, there are three stages to a CSGO tournament which are the qualifier (Play-in), Group Stage, and Playoffs. However, the format may vary or the sponsor may decide to try something with the tournament that year. All-in-all, go through the fixture of the tournament and its participants.

Some tournaments are elimination-style while others are advancement matches. Knowing the structure during elimination-style tournaments will help you know which teams are the underdogs and vice versa.

Learn From More Experienced Bettors

One of the key ways to get experience is by learning from professional punters and players. High-level, in-game skirmishes make all the difference because it’s under tense situations, that you gain insights into these games. Your insights will be useful when making wagers.

Luckily for players, getting resources to read and finding insights from other punters is free for the most part. There are books that’ll teach you about the maps and different strategies that teams can use to dominate. By learning these benefits, you’ll be able to make informed wagers.

Understanding the Odds

You need to understand the odds before you can get the most out of your bets. They give implied probability of a team winning and they tell you your potential wins. Odds are available in different formats including decimal odds, fractional odds, and American odds.

Ignore the fancy names because they all mean the same thing.

Different Types of CSGO Bets

Some of the CSGO bets available are Match Winner, Map Winner, and Handicap Winner.

  • Match Winner: This type of bet is simple and it’s perhaps the most popular type at bookmakers. All you need to do is bet on the team you think is going to win a match. Research the match-up and learn about each team’s playing style before going for any one.
  • Map Winner: You can place bets on which maps that teams will win the match. Teams have their preferences when it comes to these maps, more so as there are more than five available. Familiarize yourself with the different maps available.
  • Handicap Winner: The handicap is identical to the classic match winner but the only difference is that it’s used to balance the skill offset. So, the teams you place the handicap bet on may only have to win two matches out of three for you to win your bet.

Our Final Say

Before placing any match wagers, remember these 5 factors and you’ll be making Pro-level bets in no time. Just make sure you only make wagers that won’t break the bank. Especially if you’re just starting to bet on CSGO matches.

What is really the difference between 2D and 3D games? Of course, there are differences in appearance, user experience, and development process. However, the general skill set needed to develop 2D and 3D games is the same, even if that means you have no programming experience. All you need is the imagination to bring the game to life.

But which format is best for your game? Here’s how to determine whether creating a 2D or 3D game is best for bringing your vision to life.

2D and 3D games differ in complex technological terms, but at a basic level, these game formats have different looks in the way the characters look and move, as well as the background of the game. Even the goals or objectives of the game are different.

2D design makes games “flat” in nature, which also simplifies the camera because the game can only be viewed from one side (side/top). However, there are ways to give 2D games some artificial depth by making isometry like in “Fallout 2” or through the parallax effect. Parallax scrolling is when the background moves at a different speed (the farther the object, the slower) than the foreground. In a 2D game, the controls are generally simplified: moving the joystick in one direction makes the character move in that direction.

3D games have volume and depth, which affect how characters move in the game, creating a more realistic gameplay experience.

2D games move along two axes of motion, restricting character movement in a flat environment. 3D games, on the other hand, allow 360-degree fields of motion to rotate. Often the camera can be moved independently of the character.

To create this rotation effect, sprites are not enough, because the elements in the game must react to each other in a much more sophisticated way. Instead, game elements, called textures, are rendered on elements called 3D model surfaces, creating a deep and three-dimensional look.

A large number of 2D games are about getting from point A to point B and avoiding enemies along the way. Examples include 2D racing games in which you try to get to the finish line by avoiding other cars and other obstacles.

3D games offer more varied gameplay. Instead of just going from start to finish, characters can move through space: solving spatial puzzles, exploring, and completing multi-level challenges.

While it may seem like it’s harder to create a 3D game than a 2D game, that’s simply not true, and you shouldn’t have to worry about which type of game is harder to develop. The question you really have to ask yourself is what kind of game experience you want your users to have. Are you looking for a simpler game with the goal of rushing from point A to point B, or do you want your players to look for clues on a detailed map to win the game, as they might in 3D games?

Another consideration is what engine people are going to play the game on. 3D games are popular among console and PC games and have made significant inroads into the mobile game market, while 2D games are more popular for mobile devices. Knowing market trends is an indispensable tool to help you understand where your game buyers are.

Game builders without programming, like Buildbox, allow you to create both 2D and 3D games. Popular engines and builders tend to offer excellent customization with drag-and-drop resources, quick prototypes, and built-in template libraries. Templates and smartassets make it quick and easy to bring unique game environments, such as space shooters, to life.

The builder makes it easy to create games without requiring programming knowledge. Templates and resource assets help you get your development started. Or you can create your own game from scratch. Either way, you can use the templates to preview and preview your game in real time.

Game development is a complex process. It involves many disciplines, but it can’t take much from their standard working methods.

In terms of art, creative people (artists, musicians, writers) usually create a basic concept for their creation first and work out the details later, adding depth to it. In game development, on the other hand, your initial implementation of gameplay doesn’t work by default, and requires several iterations to improve. In many situations, it’s simply impossible to make the game work, and then it can be very difficult to abandon it in favor of another project.

On the technical side, however, the methods learned at university are mostly not used in game development. Software engineers, on the basis of the received terms of reference, develop so-called use cases. Once these scenarios are created, all interactions with the user become strictly formalized. This doesn’t work in game programming because you are more focused on the experience of the player than on what they will do.

If you’re writing a game, just write code as fast and as simple as you can. Don’t worry about design. Don’t use design patterns and encapsulation for their own sake. Make the game code quick and dirty and just make it work. If the code becomes difficult to work with later on, make it cleaner. If not, don’t touch the code.

The standard argument for writing licked code is teamwork and lots of programmers working on the game. The main programmers demand neat and organized code, which is the reason for very slow development. The rationale is, “We have to be able to replace the programmers at any time, so the code has to be readable and maintainable.” In reality, this way takes much more development time, and it’s hardly cheaper in the long run.

Make sure that each programmer on the team has a specific role and area of responsibility. Let them work as they like, fast and dirty, just make sure they create clear APIs to communicate with other programmers. What you lose in organization, you gain by an order of magnitude in development speed.

Is development commercially viable?
Wait, you have to make a prototype first! Once you have a good idea, the natural inclination is to prototype it…

Not really. This is where 99.9% indie developers make their biggest and most fatal mistake.

And no, it’s not the scale of the project that determines its viability. A lot of articles on developing a successful game that you’ll read will recommend keeping the scale of the game small to reduce the risks. This is bad and unprofessional advice. Do not follow it. There is no profit in this world without risk. The key should be to understand how to manage risk.

Just make the game as big as you want it to be. It will be a self-regulating development process in which your strengths and limitations, will reveal the limits of your capabilities. Ambition is necessary for success, don’t clip your wings in the beginning.

Before prototyping, you should be able to answer the following questions:

  1. Your target audience?
  2. How will you reach your target audience?
  3. How will the development be funded?
  4. What makes your game unique?

If your game is not different enough from its counterparts it will fail. People won’t play it, it won’t interest publishers, and no community will form around it.

What is the value of your game? You should be able to easily convey this difference with a single phrase, a picture or a short video. If you can’t pull it off, the game is likely to fail. If it’s too similar to other games, the game is likely to fail. It needs to be different.

Different can be an innovative gameplay concept, or an unprecedented visual style. Unique character designs are also of interest. For RPGs and adventure games, story and illustration are key.

A large part of GameDev market respondents (41%) came to the game industry from other fields. More often than not, they solve creative tasks, in particular art and design. And we can say that the change of industry is successful for them in most cases. This open-mindedness of the candidates gives certain bonuses to employers, such as a fresh perspective on tasks and ways to implement them.

It is also curious that about one in five (21%) come to GameDev from IT, their specialty – game development and logic. Here they find a use for their skills and get to use the modern technology stack. And the employees originally aimed at a career in the game industry (38%), as a rule, are distributed more or less evenly across all types of functions.

What are the functionalities of respondents now:

Interesting nuances were also found in gender – men are involved in game development and logic much more often than women. Many specialists perform multiple functions, and these are also mostly men (an average of 1.9 functions per person), less often women (1.3 functions).

What are dissatisfied and what inspires
The main factor requiring attention in the game industry is the level of salaries in the GameDev market is much lower than in the IT market in general, this problem was pointed out by 44% of respondents. Respondents often noted that GameDev is a very narrow field: it is difficult for candidates not only to get a job, but also to find an interesting project (24%).

Many of them added that the market is dominated by mobile games, while specialists would like to be able to participate in larger projects, which are few in the market.

And as a solution, they suggested merging small studios under one big player, which would eliminate a lot of single-type products and increase the quality of games. It is important to note that in the “other” variant, the respondents also pointed out the problem of rework and stress (“crunch”), which demonstrates the importance and relevance of the issue in this area.

The spirit of the game industry and the opportunity to see the result of one’s work is the main thing that motivates respondents to work at GameDev; they are willing to sacrifice their personal time for the sake of interesting and beloved work. And this is typical for all age groups. At the same time, as we noted earlier, the average age of employees in the industry is growing and they have families. Therefore, the size of income and the availability of a benefits package are becoming more and more important when choosing a project.

Who’s missing.
It is clear that with the young market and the lack of specialized education in the game industry, there is a shortage of personnel. According to the almost unanimous opinion of the respondents (79%), any industry can be a donor for the GameDev market. They named love of games, professionalism and desire to learn as much more important factors. An alternative option is to raise one’s own specialists, of course, if the timeframe allows.

The first industry from which it is worth attracting specialists to the gaming industry is IT. Our respondents pointed out the need to attract application developers, specialists in UX/UI design. The problem of the lack of high level of management in GameDev was repeatedly stressed.

At the same time, rank-and-file specialists are in no hurry to climb the career ladder, preferring horizontal development. Competent managers, in their opinion, could be borrowed from “big IT” which would allow to build business processes, competently plan projects and avoid partly crunches.

To develop art and design, it’s worth engaging specialists from the film industry, comics, board games. These can be artists, writers, musicians and even journalists. With the development of technology and an increasing desire for realism in games, respondents noted the need to involve engineers in this area. Such specialists can simulate the buildings, weapons and equipment more realistic.

Industry Drivers
The last thing we wanted to find out: what factors, according to GameDev experts, would most affect the development of the industry. The survey participants identified three main points. The first is having a specialized education. In their opinion, the basics of the specialty should be taught at institutes, and specialized online schools and courses should be developed.

The second factor is the emergence of new companies with large interesting projects, which will lead to increased competition in the market and, as a consequence, improve the quality of the product. And the third factor is the competitiveness of salaries relative to other donor industries.
